...When there is nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire...

...I was listening to a news story at NPR today, about the Christmas day bomber Umar Abdulmutallab, who set himself on fire in an attempt to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight in the name of Islam. As the US Senate is having hearings about interrogating methods, whether or not to prosecute him in federal courts vs as an enemy combatant, or having his Miranda rights read or not…my thoughts are drifting in a totally different direction. By no means do I support such acts, but I can’t help but being fascinated by the motivation that goes into doing something so extreme for something you are (literally) fired up about. Although the reasons and outside pressures are many, I ask myself what am I fired up about? What get you fired up...?
